This plus-size blogger is recreating celebrity looks and the results are just incredible
In recent years, the fashion industry has slowly been moving towards being more inclusive. Now, on the runway and in editorials, it's not unheard of to see models of varying shapes, sizes and ethnicities. In fact, Rihanna's Savage X Fenty NYFW show even featured a model who was heavily pregnant, and reportedly in labour while she walked the catwalk.
Still, there remains a disparity between how clothes look on size zero celebrities, and how they look on us mere mortals. But that's where Katie Sturino comes in. The blogger has been paving the way for curvy, stylish women since she launched The 12ish Style. On Instagram, Sturino shows her 230K followers what celeb outfits look like on someone who's a size 16. And as you can imagine, this is seriously helpful if you've ever thought of emulating a celebrity's style but struggle to imagine how it would look on your frame.
Sturino has taken inspiration from some of the world's biggest style icons, including Selena Gomez and even the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
Sturino has also issued a plea for retailers to include a greater array of clothes sizes with the #MakeMySize hashtag. "I can’t tell you the frustration when I’m shopping (and I’m a blogger! In NYC!) So while I applaud brands who are making changes to include more sizes, I’m going see if we can work together to let other designers know that they have a whole demographic that wants to shop," she wrote on Instagram. "Please tag a brand you wish made your size below! I’m starting the #MakeMySize Movement!"
"I launched this campaign completely on a whim after opening a Net-A-Porter same day delivery (is there anything better?) and finding again that nothing fits (is there anything worse?)," the blogger told Refinery29. "The guessing game of finding clothes is one that I am very familiar with and thought at this point that I would have an easier time."
Amen to that, Katie!
