Happy Easter to all of our readers!
And to celebrate, I'm sure many of us indulged in one or two (or seven) chocolate Easter eggs over the long weekend, probably while binge-watching Tiger King and talking with loved ones over Zoom.
Why not have a go at baking these Bailey's hot cross buns? But unlike myself, there are some people out there that didn't completely demolish their chocolate hoard and chose to ration their sweet treats to try and make them last throughout lockdown. But where do you keep your uneaten chocolate?
Well, on Saturday, a Twitter user Kira Smith, who has the handle @kiradavinasmith, posted a now-viral tweet saying: "chocolate belongs in the fridge don’t care what anyone says".
Needless to say, it all KICKED. OFF.
Since posting the tweet, it has since received more than 1.9K retweets and 14.2K likes, as well as sparking a heated debate in the thread.
Now, there were plenty of people who agreed with Kira's claim:
But as all of us sensible people know, all of these people are wrong - and as you can see, some people had a rather emotional response to the ludicrous claim:
One person posed the question of whether or not chocolate is kept in the fridge at the store, to which he answered with a "nope" gif:
This point was the argument that many people chose to side with:
One absolute wrong'un (in the chocolate sense of the word, of course), disagreed with everybody and argued that chocolate actually belongs in the FREEZER, writing: "Nah. Neither cupboard or fridge. It belongs in the freezer!! Don't knock it until you try it".
So, what is the correct answer? Well, according to Luke Owen Smith, a chocolate expert and owner of The Chocolate Bar in Wellington, New Zealand, he says that chocolate tastes better at room temperature.
Speaking to Stuff, Luke says that chilling chocolate in the fridge makes it dull, as it "doesn't release the flavors".
Although, he did say that people living in warmer climates may have no choice but to ruin their chocolate: "But if it's too hot, then you're fridge is the only option... it's not great for chocolate."
Maybe it's best if we all agree to disagree...
On a completely separate note, we all know ketchup belongs in the fridge, right?
