A woman who had all of her teeth unnecessarily removed by a dentist has cried with joy after receiving a new smile.

Brittany Negler, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, fell into a downward spiral of drink and drugs when her brother died at the age of 18.

Sharing her story, she told dentist Dr Kenny Wilstead: "For the longest time I thought I killed my brother. He had Ewing sarcoma. One day I woke up, I had a feeling not to go to school.

"So I went and laid in bed with him, and 15 minutes after I laid in bed with him, I heard him gasp and he died right there.

"I didn't know better, so I thought I killed him. Like, I thought I laid on his breathing tube or something."

Brittany continued: "I went to a dark place, I'm not going to lie. I started hanging out with the bad kids, started doing drugs to numb the feeling. I got really depressed. I was like, 'I need to take care of myself.'"

However, when she sought dental treatment, the dentist made the unnecessary decision to remove all of her teeth and replace them with oversized dentures, which left her struggling to eat.

Brittany said: "I went and got my records before I came here and it looks like they just made it up right before I came in.

"Because on there it says 'fixable by a root canal', but they never said anything about a root canal. They said my teeth weren't fixable; that they had to be pulled."

She was subsequently trolled on social media for her smile and this is what prompted her to reach out to Dr. Wilstead for help.

Thankfully, the doctor was able to solve Brittany's problem, and over a number of appointments, helped create removable dentures that gave her a comfortable smile.

She now credits the dentist with saving her life and said that she is hoping to raise money to help other people in a similar situation.

She said: "I recently had a traumatic dental experience and lost all my teeth and it messed me up mentally, emotionally, and physically.

"I lost so much weight from not being able to eat and got really depressed and was about to give up, but a dentist and his wife from states away who were complete strangers seen [sic] the real me and decided to legit save my life and give me my smile and confidence back as a gift from them.

"I posted the whole experience on my TikTok and after seeing so many people struggling with the same issues and can't afford to smile again. I don't wish that pain on anyone and I'm trying to raise money to be able to help people smile again.

"Smiles really do change the world. I'm praying to start a non-profit to be able to help people smile and shine again."
