It has now been over a week since January 6th's violent storming of the US Capitol, which resulted in five deaths and Donald Trump's second impeachment on January 13.

Around 70 of the rioters have been charged thus far - including a man seen in images wearing a pair of horns and a bearskin headdress, and a man seen carrying a large Confederate flag in the Capitol.

As the FBI continues its search for other insurrectionists who breached the building, some women are apparently doing their part by using Bumble to match with Capitol rioters - only to report them to the police.

The phenomenon began when women in Washington DC started noticing men in MAGA attire who had specifically stated their political leanings on their profile and were clearly in DC for the protest last week.

One Twitter use named Ali Awadallah explained:

"This is funny but actually serious. There are DOZENS of men on DC dating apps right now who were clearly here for the insurrection attempt yesterday. Some say it directly, others are obvious from MAGA clothing, location tags, etc. Is that info useful at all for law enforcement?

"I assume some used Tinder in DC and others just had apps open so location updated automatically. None posted any incriminating evidence of illegal acts, but are police tracking this? Is it useful as a starting point?

"I'm on hold with FBI and police. No idea if this will end up being useful but I feel like there's a good story there anyway, so everyone get on the apps and start screenshotting.

"It's funny how obvious it is when people aren't local. My app went from real estate agents, accountants, and contractors to...none of that."

Another Twitter user Allison Norris said she has "a friend of a friend who changed her preference on Bumble to Conservative."

Norris explained that this friend of a friend is "matching with MAGA bros and they're bragging and sending her pics and videos of them in the Capitol. She’s sending them to the FBI."

And now, a number of women are taking inspiration from this ingenious tactic, with some calling it "the best possible use of a dating app" and others encouraging their pals to join the vigilante activity.

After the initial tweets went viral, Bumble decided to remove its politics filter in the US to "prevent misuse", adding that it will be reinstated in the future.

"Rest assured that we prohibit any content that promotes terrorism or racial hatred, and we've already removed any users that have been confirmed as participants in the attack of the US Capitol," Bumble tweeted.
