Amanda Knox has been slammed for comparing the 2020 Presidential Election to her four-year prison sentence after she was arrested for the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher.
Taking to Twitter the 33-year-old wrote: "Whatever happens, the next four years can't be as bad as that four-year study abroad I did in Italy, right?"
Needless to say, a huge number of people were outraged by Knox's "disgusting" remarks.
One Twitter user replied: "This is so disgusting. No care for all the people terrified for their lives over the next 4 years. No care for the memory of Meredith Kercher, or her family who will surely hear of this vile tweet."
"Amanda, are you not ashamed of yourself? Are you not embarrazzed [sic]? This is really embarrazzing [sic]."
"You haven’t thought at all about who you’ll hurt with this tweet. Please consider deleting it."
"Oh really, so so funny. Joking about a tragedy and the death of a girl is so funny, after all it's only dark humor. That's so inappropriate even if the person who made the joke is innocent." Another Twitter user wrote.
However, not everyone who commented on the Twitter thread was so critical of Knox's comments.
One user wrote:
"Many will find this distasteful. Mostly those will be those still unconvinced about your innocence. The rest, like me, will understand your life was pretty much all but ruined by this case, and ffs you have a right to celebrate surviving it & making a life for you, beyond it."
"Shocking how vicious the feeling are towards this poor woman. I’ve spent all morning being attacked and questioned for expressing the same views you have..." Another commenter added.
Knox had been studying abroad in Italy when she and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were arrested and imprisoned for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007.
On December 29, 2009, Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison. The Seattle native remained in prison for another two years (four years in total) until 2011 when her conviction was overturned.
Years later, she took part in a 2016 Netflix documentary, Amanda Knox, which explored the Meredith Kercher murder case.
