Jak Knight's cause of death has been ruled a suicide following an autopsy.
According to People, an autopsy by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Cornoner revealed that the 28-year-old comedian was found on a Los Angeles embankment on Thursday (July 14) after suffering from a firearm wound.
The coroner ruled that Knight, who was best known for his stand-up comedy acts and starring in the Peacock series Bust Down, death was ruled a suicide.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Knight's family announced his death on Thursday (July 14), writing: "Knight’s loved ones ask that their privacy please be respected during this extremely difficult time."
Knight received an outpouring of tributes from fellow comedians and friends, and fans, following the announcement about his passing last week.
Eternals actor Kumail Nanjiani wrote on Twitter: "Rest In Peace Jak Knight. Hilarious comedian and a great guy. I can't believe it."
Comedian James Adomian also praised Knight, saying: "Whenever I was on a lineup with Jak Knight, I knew it was going to be a wildly funny night. Always loved watching him over the last decade. He was winning big, all of it well deserved, so witty and memorable every moment onstage and off. A painful loss to comedy."
Knight's most recent credit was co-creating and co-starring in Bust Down with Sam Jay, Chris Redd, and Langston Kerman. The show premiered on the streaming platform in March and is about four friends working low-wage jobs at a casino in Gary, Indiana.
The comedian's other credits include writing for ABC's Black-ish and Lucas Bros. Moving Co. and a forthcoming onscreen role in comedian and actress Chelsea Peretti's feature directorial debut titled, First Time Female Director.
The Seattle native also wrote and voiced the role of Devon on the hit Netflix animated series Big Mouth from 2017 to 2021. Additionally, Knight also has executive producing, writing, and acting credits on Pause with Sam Jay which premiered in 2021.
Knight toured worldwide as a standup comedian and opened for prominent comedians like Dave Chappelle, Aziz Ansari, Joel McHale, and Eric Andre.
In 2014, he was named a Comedy Central Comic to Watch, and in 2018, he appeared on the Netflix standup series The Comedy Lineup.
