Ryan Grantham, who pleaded guilty to the murder of his mother, also allegedly planned to murder Justin Trudeau.
Per CBC, the 24-year-old - known for his role in the popular film Diary of a Wimpy Kid - pleaded guilty to the March 2020 second-degree murder of his mom, Barbara Waite, in March this year.
The outlet reported that the actor's sentencing hearing began in the British Columbia Supreme Court on Monday (June 13), and was held to decide how long Grantham will serve for the crime before he is eligible to apply for parole.
The British Columbia Prosecution Service confirmed that Grantham's plead to the second-degree murder of his mother carries a mandated life sentence, as reported by People.
Prosecutors revealed that Grantham had rehearsed the killing and took videos, including a four-minute segment captured in the hours after the killing, in which he confesses to the murder and shows his deceased mother's body.
CBC also disclosed that after murdering his mom, the actor allegedly loaded his car with three guns, 12 Molotov cocktails, ammunition, camping supplies, and a map with directions to Rideau Cottage, where Trudeau lives with his family.
Per Complex, Grantham noted his plan to kill the Canadian Prime Minister in a statement to the police and excerpts read out in court from his private journal.
The outlet also reported that the young actor never made it to Trudeau's residence, and instead went to Vancouver police headquarters to confess that he killed his mother.
According to Crown prosecutor Michaela Donnelly, Grantham feared his mother would see his poor performance at university and marijuana smoking.
Donnelly referenced two psychiatric reports that displayed the young actor had been going through an "intense period of clinical depression". The reports also showed that he was "experiencing urges to commit violence and kill himself," and that one of the reasons he killed his mom was "to spare her from seeing the violence he intended to commit".
B.C. Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker also heard that the Supernatural actor had considered mass killings, including one at the Lions Gate Bridge and Simon Fraser University, where he was a student.
Complex shared that the Riverdale actor's sister Lisa Grantham found their mother on April 1, and read a victim impact statement to the court. She said her mother, who was battling cancer, was her "best friend."
"She was vulnerable and Ryan gave her no chance to defend herself. It pains me to know he was a danger to her life," she said, adding that both she and her aunt (her mother's sister) told the court that they "fear" Grantham's release from prison.
According to the British Columbia Prosecution Service, Wednesday was the last day of the three days scheduled for Grantham's hearing.
