'Breaking Bad' star RJ Mitte's cause of death revealed
The Cameron County inquest report from Texas has officially determined the cause of death for actor RJ Mitte, known to millions as Walter White Jr. in the acclaimed drama Breaking Bad.
The 34-year-old actor passed away at his home in Texas on October 12, where an official report confirmed he died by hanging, Page Six reports. County documents state that he was pronounced dead at 1:32PM.
The news follows an earlier statement from the actor's representative confirming he had died by suicide. At that time, his representative stated: "It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte."
Mitte was discovered by his mother, Dyna Mitte, after she arrived at his residence to drop off lunch. She had attempted to telephone him earlier that Monday morning, but he failed to answer the call.
The discovery has left his family and friends reeling from the loss of a talent who spent years advocating for inclusion in the entertainment business.
Mitte's mother shares painful details of his final days
Dyna Mitte spoke out regarding the circumstances surrounding her son's passing and reflected on the immense emotional toll it has taken.
Speaking to NBC News, she said: "A mother should never find her child this way." She confirmed that the actor did not leave behind a note prior to taking his life.
Dyna stated her belief that her son's death was a "spur of the moment" act. She revealed that she had spent "three months" trying to encourage him to seek professional therapy before October.
According to Dyna, Mitte had also been struggling under severe personal strain involving a split between his relatives and his fiancée, Kennedy Suarez.
Reports from TMZ previously indicated Suarez gave Mitte an ultimatum demanding he choose between her and his family. Dyna acknowledged there was "some of that going on" and explained that the escalating dispute weighed heavily on his mind, though tensions between the parties continued to rise in the days preceding the tragedy.
Cast members and family reflect on his legacy
Throughout his career, Mitte used his public platform to advocate for individuals with physical challenges. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, in August 1992, he entered the world through an emergency cesarean section and sustained mild brain damage from oxygen deprivation, which resulted in cerebral palsy.
Despite this condition, he built a successful screen career and championed equal treatment across the industry.
In his final interview, Mitte spoke about his philosophy on life, stating that he wanted to "keep living the dream" while noting that "every dream could be a nightmare… just keep living it, just keep pushing forward".
His former co-stars expressed sadness upon hearing the news. Bryan Cranston, who portrayed his father Walter White on Breaking Bad, stated that he was in "deep despair" over the loss.
Cranston remembered their years working together on set, sharing: "I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm.
"Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never – ever – allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything. He met the demanding shooting schedule head on with great determination."
