RJ Mitte's last public appearance before his tragic death aged 34
RJ MItte’s final public appearance before his tragic death was to speak about his new movie.
The Breaking Bad star and disability advocate has died in Brownsville, Texas at the age of 34.
RJ Mitte was a tireless campaigner for disability rights
Mitte, who lived with cerebral palsy, came to prominence playing Walter Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston’s lead character Walter White in the era-defining AMC show Breaking Bad.
That character, and several others that Mitte played throughout his career, was also living with cerebral palsy, and therefore offered the actor an opportunity to promote inclusion and awareness of disabilities, as well as challenging stereotypes.
In his last ever public appearance, just days before his death, Mitte was seen promoting his latest role in indie flick Talking to Strangers, in which he played a character with cerebral palsy involved in a love story.
He had praised the movie for ‘pushing social norms’ and ‘stepping out of the realms of comfort’ with regards to covering the issue.
He also praised the ‘amazing’ cast and ‘awesome’ director.
The actor then attended a premiere at the Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills on September 30.
Mitte was found dead in Texas
Mitte’s death was first reported by TMZ, who had the news confirmed to them by a county official.
An investigation into his death has been started, and no cause of death has yet been confirmed.
He was an avowed advocate for cerebral palsy, working as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, as well as acting as a Screen Actors Guild spokesperson for people with disabilities within then industry.
As well as his role in Breaking Bad and his latest in Talking to Strangers, Mitte starred in Switched at Birth, The Guardians of Justice and Now Apocalypse, as well as other roles across the world of film and TV.
Mitte was not married, but he had recently become engaged to long-time partner Kennedy Suarez.
The pair had been friends for over a decade before embarking on a romantic relationship, and became engaged after Mitte proposed in October 2025 at the United Cerebral Palsy gala.
Earlier this month, Mitte had been seen with Breaking Bad co-star Luis Moncada, and seemed to be having a great time discussing the show.
