Singer Sinead O'Connor's teenage son has died two days after he was reported missing, with the grieving mother telling fans he had "decided to end his earthly struggle".

The 55-year-old 'Nothing Compares 2 U' performer paid tribute to her 17-year-old son Shane - who she shares with her former partner, fellow singer Donal Lunny - on Twitter.

In the tweet, she wrote: "My beautiful son, Nevi'im Nesta Ali Shane O'Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace."

Shane, who disappeared on Thursday, was one of four of Sinead's children. He is survived by his siblings Jake Reynolds, Roisin Waters, and Yeshua Francis Neil Bonadio.

Sinead also posted a Bob Marley song, 'Ride Natty Ride', in honor of her late son, describing him as her "blue-eye baby" and the "light of my life".

She wrote: "This is for my Shaney. The light of my life. The lamp of my soul. My blue-eye baby. You will always be my light. We will always be together. No boundary can separate us."

Per the Irish Examiner, on January 6, Irish police, An Garda Síochána, had issued a report urging anyone with information on the teenager's whereabouts to get in contact after he disappeared from an area of Dublin.

Two days later, Gardaí confirmed to the outlet that authorities concluded their search after the discovery of a body in Bray, County Wicklow.

A spokesperson for police said: "Following the recovery of a body in the Bray area of Wicklow on Friday, 7 January 2022, a Missing Person Appeal in respect of Shane O’Connor, 17 years, has been stood down.

"An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media and public for their assistance in this matter. No further action is required and no further information is available at this time."

Back in May last year, Sinead tweeted about her late son's father: "I am very fond of him. And vastly admire his Beatles-esque effect on Irish traditional music. He is also a lovely, kind father to our son."

Our thoughts are with Shane's loved ones at this devastating time.
