Jada Pinkett Smith has opened up about her regret over dating Will Smith when he was still married to his first wife, Sheree Zampino.

Smith's wife of 20 years spoke of her shame after inviting Zampino as her first guest on her new show, the Red Table Talk, in an episode about motherhood.

Pinkett Smith and the Suicide Squad star first began dating when he was separated from his first wife, but not yet divorced from her.

Speaking of the situation, which occurred in 1995 after the pair met on the set of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Pinkett Smith confessed to being inconsiderate towards Zampino, who shares a son with her ex-husband.

She admitted: “Because I did not understand marriage, I did not understand divorce, I probably should have fell back," to which TV personality Zampino responded "You think?"

Furthermore, the two women reminisced about a particularly heated argument: “Do you remember that conversation we had on the phone that one time?” Pinkett Smith asked Fletcher. “They were fighting words."

Zampino stated that she had called the house to speak with her then-three-year-old son Trey when Pinkett Smith answered the phone.

The reality TV star didn't take kindly to her ex-husband's new woman answering and admitted that she wasn't "respectful", leading to a blazing row.

"I happened to say, ‘B***h you living in the house I picked out," Zampino admitted. "You said, ‘It’s my house now.’"

Pinkett Smith also remembered Smith's reaction to the argument well, stating: “Will Smith let me have it. His take was, ‘That is Trey’s mother and that’s just not your place.’"

Fortunately, despite awkward beginnings, the two women eventually settled their differences and found a feasible way to co-parent.

Pinkett Smith previously spoke to Access Hollywood about having Zampino on her show, stating that it was "important to have her there".

She said: "I thought it was important to have that conversation because she was my entry point to motherhood. I was co-mothering with her. At that particular time, before [having a blended family] was popular, before it was even an idea, we were trying to create something that we had never experienced."

Pinkett Smith will celebrate her 21st wedding anniversary with Smith in December.
