Tragedy struck two months ago when it was reported that Beana, who was a writer and director, passed away at the age of 47.

He was found deceased by his dog walker on January 3, 2025, at his home in Los Angeles and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later confirmed that Baena died by suicide.

According to Us Weekly, a new report from the Los Angeles medical examiner disclosed that Beana and Plaza - who got married in 2020 - had been separated since September 2024.

The medical examiner’s report detailed Baena’s recent personal struggles, writing: “According to the reported information, the decedent Jeffrey Baena is a 47-year-old Caucasian male."

“He was experiencing recent marital difficulties and was separated from his wife since September 2024," they added.

The Parks and Recreation actress, 40, reportedly became concerned about Baena’s well-being in October, after he made what was described as “concerning remarks which prompted her to call a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband," cited by The Independent.

“Baena had been attending therapy since that event. According to (an unnamed person) Baena did not have any previous suicide attempts. He had a history of difficulty sleeping,” the report added.

Per the outlet, Plaza’s last known communication with the Life After Beth director was on the morning of January 3, the same day he was later found dead.

Following his tragic passing, the White Lotus star and the Baena's family released a statement, which read: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time."

Weeks later, Plaza was seen publicly for the first time at the SNL 50 celebration, where she wore a black blazer over a tie-dye shirt - a look many interpreted as a touching tribute to her late husband.

In 2021, Plaza revealed during her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show that tie-dye held a special place in the couple's relationship.

“Jeff got really into tie-dying during the [COVID-19] quarantine,” she told the host at the time. “So I decided that Jeff and I were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us.”

Plaza even added a whimsical touch to their intimate wedding ceremony: “I made, like, a love altar in the backyard of all our love objects, [and] it was very witch-core,” she recalled.
