The "one reason" why Nina Dobrev and her partner Shaun White apparently separated after five years together has been revealed.
The couple got engaged in October 2022, with the three-time Olympic gold medalist proposing to the Vampire Diaries star at a New York City restaurant.
"After the proposal, they were calling and texting friends saying, 'It can't get better than this,' and were just glowing," a source told PEOPLE at the time.
However, less than a year after their engagement, the pair shocked fans by announcing their breakup, leaving many to wonder what led to the end of their relationship.
The Reason Behind the Split: Different Visions for the Future
Sources close to the couple have now claimed to reveal the primary reason for their split.
According to PEOPLE, one insider alleged that Dobrev, 36, was left "devastated" by the end of her relationship with White, 39, as they reportedly had differing views on their future together.
"There was one reason: She wanted a family and wanted to get married - and he didn't," the source claimed.
However, another disputed this, and insisted that the pair wanted the same things - marriage and children - but ultimately couldn’t reconcile their plans.
"It wasn’t just one-sided," the second source said. "They both wanted marriage and kids and were making plans to have a life together."
Cheating Rumors DeniedAs with many high-profile breakups, cheating rumors surfaced after Dobrev posted a TikTok video showing her lip-syncing to a line about a woman trying to "fix" a man.
As some fans interpreted the clip as a subtle jab at her former beau, a source close to the couple shared that there was no truth to the rumors of infidelity.
"There was no cheating at all during the course of their relationship. They were very loyal to each other," the insider told US Weekly. "Any online speculation that suggests otherwise is ridiculous."
The breakup, which was confirmed on September 11, was described by sources as a mutual decision.
Dobrev is reportedly receiving support from her family while she is currently out of the country.
Meanwhile, White shared his first Instagram update since the split by marking his first trip back to Beijing after retiring from competitive snowboarding. Fans noticed that he had limited the comments on the post.
