Selena Gomez has opened up about her hopes of becoming a mother in the future, revealing that she intends to have children "eventually".
The 34-year-old singer and actress, who married music producer Benny Blanco last year, has previously spoken openly about being unable to carry a pregnancy herself, but despite that, Selena remains determined to become a mother.
The actor-turned-singer has said she wants to help challenge the stigma surrounding the different ways women can experience motherhood, away from traditional approaches.
The star was discussing her non-profit organization, the Rare Impact Fund, during the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City, with the organization looking to raise $100 million over a decade to increase access to youth mental health services and education.
Reflecting on the work carried out by the organization, Selena said: "I think what makes me proud is knowing that we're truly making a difference.
"I think there's a bunch of stigma around everything and I have a 13-year-old sister who means the world to me, and eventually I'll have my own children, and this is something that I don't want to be taboo.
"I don't mind if people think it's 'out there', but I love what we have accomplished and I think we'll just continue to grow in that manner and hopefully continue to do great things."
Selena previously revealed to Vanity Fair in 2024 that she is unable to carry her own children because of medical complications that could put both her life and a baby's life at risk. She explained: "I haven’t ever said this... but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children.
"I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy… that was something I had to grieve for a while."
The actor later spoke about her decision to be open about both her fertility struggles and her bipolar disorder while appearing at a Women in Film event alongside her younger sister Gracie Elliott Teefey, stating that she believes there is strength in being honest about difficult experiences and asking for support when it is required.
"I truly believe that there is power in being vulnerable and telling people when you need help, when you want help.
"That is not shameful. So yeah, I shared that I can’t carry a child. Yeah, I shared I have bipolar – f*** off. That’s what my life is like."
Selena has previously explained that speaking publicly about her own experiences is part of her desire to stand up for other women who may be facing similar challenges.
She claimed: "That’s why I like to be honest – because everybody’s going through something.
“I don’t have it all together. I’m me. And that’s all I can be. So do not ever let anyone tell you that you are not a good person, that you aren’t kind, that you won’t treat people with respect.
“'Cause that is not lame, that is so cool of you guys. And that is the fact. So, screw anyone who tells you you’re a victim. You’re a survivor in my book.”
