Two 'bottle and vodka' tricks American Pie actor Jason Biggs used to hide that he was an alcoholic

American Pie star Jason Biggs has opened up about the shocking lengths he went to in order to hide his alcohol addiction from his wife, Jenny Mollen, admitting she had “no idea” about the extent of his drinking.

The New Jersey-born actor, best known for his role as Jim Levenstein in the American Pie movies, said he was secretly drinking entire bottles of vodka every day while maintaining the façade of a normal family life.

Speaking on Mollen’s podcast All the Fails, Biggs, 46, described how his “high-functioning” alcoholism spiraled after finding fame in Hollywood. The couple, who married in 2008 after meeting on the set of My Best Friend’s Girl, share two sons.

Despite their famously open relationship (the pair have previously admitted to hiring a prostitute together) Biggs said he managed to conceal his dependency from Mollen for years.

“It was all science”: how he hid his drinking

Biggs revealed he had devised a system he called his “bottle method” to disguise how much he was drinking.

“I was replacing those bottles in the bar all the time. All the time,” he said. “It was all science; I knew how to get wasted enough to take myself out of the present, but not so much that anyone would notice.”

The Orange Is the New Black actor said he would leave therapy sessions (which were meant to help him with his addiction) only to buy more alcohol on the way home. “I’m going to therapy and ‘working on things,’ but meanwhile I’m leaving therapy, going to the liquor store, buying a fifth of vodka, drinking it, and then driving home,” he admitted.

Jenny Mollen’s reaction to her husband’s confession

Mollen, 45, said she was stunned to learn just how deeply her husband’s addiction had taken hold. “I was married to this guy? That’s so weird to me!” she said on the podcast. “These are the things that shock me. How did I not notice?”

Biggs replied that her lack of awareness was precisely how he managed to keep his secret for so long. “You just didn’t know how to look for it,” he said. “I made sure of that.”

Jason Biggs on his sobriety journey

Biggs has been open about his recovery process in the past. In October 2018, he revealed on Instagram that he had celebrated one year of sobriety.

“I first tried to get sober over five years ago when the weight of my obsession with booze and drugs became too heavy to handle,” he wrote at the time. “After some fits and starts, I’ve managed to put together one year of sobriety. I’m as proud of it as anything in my life.”

He encouraged others battling addiction not to feel ashamed, adding: “If you’re struggling, know there’s help. Don’t be ashamed. We can do this.”

Fans praise Jason Biggs for his honesty

Listeners of the podcast have since praised Biggs for his honesty and vulnerability in discussing addiction and recovery.

One fan wrote: “Thank you for sharing, Jason! He is describing my drinking to a tee. Sobriety works!” Another added: “Love his honesty and your lack of judgment.”

Biggs’ candid admission has been hailed as a reminder that addiction often hides behind even the most picture-perfect relationships, and that recovery begins with honesty.
