A bikini-clad social media influencer has joined in the boycott of popular beer brand Bud Light, by filming herself shooting cans of the alcohol.
Bri Teresi - who makes her money through modeling on social media - shared a controversial clip of herself shooting at a stack of Bud Light cans and, strangely, Tampax tampons, and Honey Birdette lingerie in a display of protest.
Teresi shouted: "Go Woke, Go Broke" before unleashing the bullets on the products, which were resting on two barrels.
"I'm shooting at Honey Birdette lingerie, Tampax tampons & Budlight. These companies have all gone woke," she said in a reply to her original video. "Tampax tampons used a biological male to promote their tampons. Honey Birdette used a biological male to model their lingerie. & y'all know about Bud Light [sic]."
Teresi had been referencing Bud Light's recent partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, who received a customized can from the brand with her face for the March Madness ad. The partnership was also in celebration of the anniversary of Mulvaney's transition.
Teresi has been vocal about other brands who have chosen to use trans women to advertise products sold primarily for women. The model has previously worked with Honey Birdette, a luxury lingerie brand who recently used a non-binary model in an ad campaign.
"I was definitely surprised when Honey Birdette decided to post this image of a biological male modeling women's lingerie. When I saw this I was infuriated because I knew a woman had been robbed of the opportunity and a job and I find it absolutely hysterical that this brand claims to be 'by women, for women' yet is robbing women of opportunities," Teresi told Fox Business earlier this week.
Multiple other influencers and politicians have hit out at Bud Light following their partnership with Mulvaney. On Monday (April 24), Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the launch of Real Women of Politics koozies to hold beer. "Real women don't have to fake it," she said after the initial advertisement was released.
Teresi's plan may have backfired, however, after social media users pointed out that she had clearly contributed to the businesses she was bashing by buying their products for the video.
"They aren't going to go broke when you spend money to give free advertisements while you destroy your own money," one person wrote.
"Still had to buy the budlight," another person added.
"But… you already bought all this stuff (or someone else bought it for you). Unless you're a shoplifter, you just shot up your own money," a further tweet read.
So far, the reactions across the video on Instagram and Twitter have clearly had mixed opinions. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
