Activist and Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has tied the knot on Tuesday, November 9, with her partner Asser Malik.

The pair wed at a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham, UK, surrounded by family and close friends. Yousafzai, 24, shared the news on social media along with some photos of the special day.

"Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life," she wrote alongside the loved-up images.

"We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead."

In 2014 Yousafzai - then 17 - became the youngest ever recipient of the Nobel peace prize after she began advocating for girls' education in 2009.

The Taliban tried to silence her in 2012 by shooting the then 15-year-old Yousafzai in the head. She survived the attack and went on to co-found the Malala Fund, an international charity advocating for girls' education.

Last year she graduated from the University of Oxford with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE).

Daily Mail reports that Malik, a high-performance manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is in his early thirties. Alongside his work for the PCB, he also runs an amateur grassroots cricket league, Last Man Stands in Pakistan.

Fans and celebrities alike flocked to Instagram to shower the newlyweds with sweet messages of congratulations.

"Congratulations!" wrote climate activist Greta Thunberg. Thunberg described Yousafzai as her 'role model' when the two met last year.

Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon, Priyanka Chopra, and British Vogue Editor Edward Enninful also shared their congratulations.

Yousafzai's friend and fellow education activist Vee Kativhu shared her own photos from the ceremony where she was a guest.

"My bestieeee tied the knot!!!" Khativu wrote on Instagram. "What a special day today was; witnessing Mal & my brand new brother in law become partners for life."
