A man took on a pretty large kangaroo after it grabbed hold of his dog and appeared to be drowning it.

There is nothing that most of us wouldn't do to protect our beloved pets because they are a member of the family and deserve our complete devotion.

With that being said, would you take on a pretty muscly Kangaroo in a boxing match if it meant helping your dog?

Well, an Australian ex-cop and martial arts enthusiast found himself locked in a fierce roo-jitsu match with a towering kangaroo.

The incident unfolded back in November in Mildura, Victoria, as the brave former police officer stepped in to rescue his dog - the adorable Hutchy - from the clutches of the massive animal.

The shocking encounter, captured on video, initially took TikTok by storm with over 2.5 million views before being taken down, only to resurface on Reddit, where it's gaining even more attention.

Mick Moloney, the ex-cop, described the bizarre encounter to 7 News, stating: "I saw a kangaroo ... with his arms in the water, basically just staring at me."

Hutchy's distress soon revealed the cause of their peculiar behavior. As Moloney recounted: "Hutchy came up gasping for air, water spilling out of his mouth and screaming his head off."

The ex-cop wasted no time, springing into action to save his beloved pet.

Armed with his smartphone, Moloney confronted the 7-foot-tall kangaroo, which was holding Hutchy in the water, eyeing him curiously.

In a tense moment, Moloney declared: "I'm going to punch your f***ing head in," and demanded the marsupial release his dog. When the kangaroo refused, Moloney threw a punch, sending the creature staggering backward.

In retaliation, the kangaroo fought back, striking Moloney with its clawed paws, knocking his phone into the water and causing the screen to go blurry and then black.

The interspecies scuffle continued in the dark as Moloney retrieved his phone, revealing Hutchy safe on the riverbank. The video concluded with the kangaroo staring menacingly from the water as Moloney made his way back to shore, laughing at the ridiculous situation.

Despite his Brazilian jiujitsu training, Moloney admitted that his skills were ineffective against the kangaroo's skilled attacking techniques. Fortunately, both Moloney and his dog emerged from the fight with only a few scratches, and Hutchy's life was saved.

It sounds like Hutchy will be forever indebted to his owner!
