An Ontario politician has the internet in stitches after one of his press conferences was interrupted by an unlikely suspect.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford was speaking to audiences at a conference on privatizing health care when a bee flew straight into his mouth and down his throat.

In a clip of the hilarious moment, the offending insect can be seen buzzing around Ford's face as he talks. Then, all of a sudden, the bee is sucked into his mouth.

The politician splutters and coughs, stepping away from the microphone as he tries to get the bee out of his mouth - but to no avail.

After a few moments, the 57-year-old politician explained to his audience what had happened, saying: "Holy Christ, I just swallowed a bee!"

Ford took a sip of water while people in the crowd could be heard asking him if he was okay. Pointing to his stomach, the politician replied: "I'm good, he's buzzing around down here right now."

It didn't take long for Ford to see the funny side of things. He quickly realized that the moment was going to go viral online, and joked: "This is going to be played over and over again."

Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for people to begin poking fun at the moment on Twitter. Many people were of the opinion that the bee had deliberately flown into Ford's mouth to stop him from promoting privatized healthcare.

"RIP: That bee did more to protect universal healthcare than any of the Premiers have," one person tweeted. Another added: "God sent a bee to shut him the f*** up," while a third joked: "Sting operation was successful," and a fourth chimed in: "Karma is a beeeeeeetch."

I guess that's one of the more inventive ways a politician has caused a buzz during a press conference.
