A Taylor Swift fan has tragically died after attending the singer's concert in Brazil last night.
According to the Brazilian newspaper Fohla De Sao Paolo, concertgoer Ana Clara Benevides fainted after experiencing heat exhaustion while at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos.
The 23-year-old's cousin, Estela Benevides, shared with the publication that Ana is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest on Friday (November 17) night at the Rio de Janeiro venue after struggling with the extreme heat.
Doctors at the scene revived the young fan for 40 minutes before she was eventually rushed to Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital where she ultimately died of cardiorespiratory arrest.
Ana's death was confirmed to Folha by Estela. It's unclear if she got to see the 33-year-old songstress take the stage when the show began at around 7:30PM local time.
Her friend, Thiago Fernandes, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to mourn her death, writing in an emotional post (translated from Portuguese to English): "This is how I will remember you! I adored you since the day I met you."
"In fact, I only moved to your house when we were 11 years old, know that I will always adore you. I just can't believe you're not here anymore. I can't accept this," he added.
Another friend also shared a heartbreaking tribute to Ana under a sweet video of her singing a song by Swift: "Benevides' dream has always been to see Taylor," they penned.
"It hurts to know what happened and even more so that it may have been due to the guys' negligence in prohibiting people from bringing water in. Rest in peace Benevida," they added.
Friday night's show in Rio de Janeiro was the first of three Eras Tour performances in Brazil, following stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The 'Love Story' singer's concert coincided with the dangerous heat wave, with Folha reporting the heat index - or apparent temperature - inside the packed stadium reached 60C.
Several audience members complained on social media that they were banned from bringing water bottles inside the stadium even though there was scorching warmth. However, this claim has not been confirmed as of this writing.
Footage shared online showed the Grammy-winning musician herself pausing the show multiple times to ask organizers to distribute bottles of water among audience members. At one point, while singing her hit 'All Too Well', Swift was seen throwing a water bottle into the crowd, BBC News reports.
At one point, the 'Anti-Hero' singer said: "Sorry it’s just very hot so when somebody says they need water and it's this hot, they really need it."
Furthermore, local publications reported that firefighters counted 1,000 faintings inside the venue on the night of Swift's show, according to unofficial figures, per The Sun.
The Eras Tour has two more shows in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday (November 18) and Sunday (November 19) before heading to São Paulo next weekend for the final stop of the 2023 tour leg.
