Millions of people all over the world have gathered together to celebrate Charles III being crowned the King of England as well as 14 other Commonwealth realms in what has been described as a history-defining moment for the United Kingdom.

The special day saw prominent royal figures gather together at Westminster Abbey in order to watch the 74-year-old monarch be formally crowned alongside his wife who was also crowned the Queen of England.

Charles III initially took over his mother's duties after she tragically passed away on September 8 2022 after an impressive 70 years and 214 days, but his coronation marked a special moment for the country that has not seen a change in Head of State in over seven decades.

As the crowns were placed on their heads, King Charles and Queen Camilla were said to have symbolized a more modern version of the monarchy, which has remained mostly unchanged for the past century.

Ahead of the ceremony, all the major rituals - bar a few which were dropped due to the request of the royal - were prepared for and delivered at the venue, reflecting hundreds of years' worth of traditions implemented by those who stood in the same position before him.

The King traveled down from Buckingham Palace with the Queen in their Diamond Jubilee State Coach as the other royals followed behind them. The family waved out to thousands of hopeful spectators who turned up in great numbers to catch a glimpse of the new ruler and his wife.

Once inside, the 74-year-old was taken through a series of declarations in which he pledged allegiance to his country, upheld all of his religious duties, and watched his son, Prince William, also do the same.

Kneeling in front of his father, The Prince of Wales said: "I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God."

He then stood, touched the crown, and kissed the King on the cheek to which Charles nodded and said "amen" before saying three heartfelt words to his eldest son.

"Thank you, William," the King softly spoke.

One of the major highlights, the iconic anointment ceremony, saw Chrism oil, which was specially made for King Charles' big day in the same way that it was for Queen Elizabeth II's - placed on the King in a private segment behind a screen before he was officially crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

Queen Camilla also underwent a similar routine before joining her husband as the pair headed back to Buckingham Palace in their carriage while being followed by approximately 4,000 UK armed forces personnel. The pair were getting prepared for the second part of the day which involved a larger ceremonial procession.

Their Majesties watched a Royal Salute in the Garden of Buckingham Palace from the Armed Forces taking part in the processions on the day as they waved out to their royal fans - a touching moment for those who have been waiting for this historic day to arrive.

As the royals head home, fans have also started leaving the area after an incredible day.

We wish King Charles and Queen Camilla the best of luck during this next part of their lives together.

Long live the King!
