A five-year-old has become the youngest person to die of the COVID-19 pandemic in England. The child was among 708 people who have died in the UK over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 4,313, at the time of writing, per ITV news.

Michael Gove paid tribute to the child during the government's daily press conference. "Our thoughts today are also with the family of the five-year-old child with underlying health conditions who’s tragically died," he said.

A statement from the NHS regarding the latest death toll stated: "Patients were aged between five years and 104 years old. Forty of the 637 patients [in England] (aged between 48 and 93 years old) had no known underlying health condition."

Gove also confirmed that seven medical professionals had died after testing positive for the coronavirus, before both he and the Chief Medical Professor, Steve Powis, reiterated the government's message that people need to stay at home to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, especially as the UK is expected to have warmer weather this weekend.

This is another record daily rise since the beginning of the outbreak. A total of 41,903 people have now tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK.

According to the Scottish government, a further 46 people have died, bringing their total to 218, and another 13 deaths were recorded in Wales, taking the toll to 154. Northern Ireland's total also rose by eight to 56.

Previously, 13-year-old Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab was the youngest victim of the coronavirus in the UK. Per The Metro, he was buried in the Eternal Gardens at Kemnal Park Cemetery in Chislehurst on Friday afternoon.
