He emphasized his hope for “more empathetic leadership around the world,” hinting that the monarchy could play a key role in bringing about meaningful change, per Sky News.

When asked if his approach to royal engagements and tours is intentional, William replied: “I can only describe what I'm trying to do, and that's trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation.

"And to give you more of an understanding around it, I'm doing it with maybe a smaller R in the royal, if you like - that's maybe a better way of saying it.”

The 42-year-old prince expanded on his vision, explaining it as “more about impact philanthropy, collaboration, convening, and helping people. And I'm also going to throw empathy in there as well, because I really care about what I do. It helps impact people's lives. And I think we could do with some more empathetic leadership around the world.”

During the interview, the prince also opened up about personal challenges, describing the past year as “brutal” after his wife and father were diagnosed with cancer.

While it’s uncertain how these events may shape his future role, William hinted at more collaborative and empathetic initiatives in the coming years.

On the question of future engagements, William suggested that his wife, the Princess of Wales, may play a more visible role.

“I think hopefully Catherine will be doing a bit more next year, so we’ll have some more trips maybe lined up.”

However, he emphasized that their three young children’s needs remain a top priority.

“Family-wise, you'll have to wait a little bit longer because obviously they're at school, and I think that takes priority [over] everything else,” he said.

William’s remarks came as he concluded his tour in South Africa, celebrating the fourth year of the Earthshot Prize, an initiative he launched to promote environmental innovation.

Prince William’s comments reflect his commitment to initiatives that directly impact communities, particularly those focused on environmental issues and homelessness.

His projects, such as the Earthshot Prize and the Homewards initiative, reflect these values.

“That’s what I’m trying to bring, and that’s what Catherine is trying to bring as well,” he said, referring to the Princess of Wales.

“I sit here right now doing Earthshot and doing all the projects I’m doing, like Homewards as well. And who knows what’s going to come next, but it all centers around those values of trying to help deliver change and make lives better.”
