Horror details as 76-year-old woman accused of killing ex-husband and his new girlfriend in jealous rage
A 76-year-old woman is accused of storming into the home of her ex-husband and fatally shooting him and his new girlfriend.
Grace Edge allegedly stormed into the trailer home in rural Toombs County, Georgia, on Monday, October 19, and opened fire on Wallace Truman Edge, 75, and Pamela Cook, 40.
One of the victims' mothers was injured in and witnessed the attack
Cook’s petrified mother, Diane Cook, 55, was on the property and witnessed the double murder before she was shot in the arm and called the emergency services.
Although a definitive motive has not yet been established, Edge allegedly acted in a fit of jealous rage as she struggled to accept that her former husband, whom she divorced more than ten years ago, had moved on with a considerably younger woman.
Toombs County Sheriff Jordan Kight told WTOC: “Mr. Edge had started dating Pamela, and it appears that, based on information we received, Grace was not accepting of the situation.”
The disturbing final moments of the attack were recorded in the 911 call made by Diane Cook, who described on the phone how Edge allegedly began firing seconds after entering the home.
Cook told the emergency call handler: “She just come in start shooting.”
By the time cops arrived at the property at approximately 2:30PM, Wallace and Pamela were already deceased.
According to authorities, the suspected murderer fired five shots during the savage attack.
Instead of trying to escape, Edge drove directly to the Toombs County Sheriff's Office and turned herself in.
County Sheriff Kight said: “We believe she had driven straight from the residence where this happened and drove straight here to the sheriff's office.”
Edge and Cook's tumultuous relationship was known to law enforcers
The former couple’s turbulent past was well known to local authorities as police had reportedly been called to their marital home over domestic disputes and other incidents at least a dozen times, with both parties reporting each other on separate occasions.
However, none of the previous incidents resulted in arrests.
Edge is currently being held at the Toombs County Detention Center facing seven criminal charges in connection with the fatal attack, including two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, and three counts of aggravated assault.
Residents of quaint Toombs County have been left horrified by the double murder in their close-knit community.
Speaking about how the town has handled the news, Kight said: "When something like this happens it is a shock and awe type feel to our community."
