American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn had an alarming response when his mistress texted "I want to kill your wife".
Ashley Flynn, 37, was found dead inside the couple's Tipp City, Ohio, home on February 16 after Caleb called the police and said an intruder had broken in and killed her.
In a 911 call released by authorities, Caleb claimed his wife had been shot multiple times in the head, and he didn’t know whether the intruder was still in the house.
"There’s blood everywhere, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God," he added, per CNN.
The footage, which was released on March 2 by the Tipp City Police Department, showed what happened straight after the fatal shooting.
In the video, Flynn appeared distraught as officers responded to the tragedy. He can be heard sobbing loudly, struggling to breathe, and, at one point, vomiting.
In one blurred clip recorded inside the home, he repeatedly cries out "Oh my God" and tearfully asks an officer, "Is she gone?" He is also heard calling his mother to tell her what happened.
"Ashley’s dead," he says several times, breaking down and wailing, "Mommy, she’s gone."
"I don’t know what to do," he said before ending the call. Moments later, he says he feels sick and begins to vomit.
Later in the video, Caleb walks outside to meet a relative arriving at the scene. He stumbles and falls as he steps out of the house, then gets up and hugs the woman, who is visibly shaken and crying.
The woman, who was identified in the footage as the children’s grandmother, listens as Caleb tells her: "The girls don’t know."
The former contestant, who was also a church worship leader, was later charged with murder and is now on trial.
On Thursday (September 24), Alleigha Botner testified about her nearly two-year affair with Caleb and read aloud a series of disparaging messages about Ashley that they exchanged before her death.
In one text, Botner read out, she wrote: "I want to kill her, Caleb." She then briefly paused and began crying before saying: "I didn’t mean it," as cited by PEOPLE.
In another text, she penned: "I need her gone, Caleb." He then responded by chillingly saying, "That makes two of us."
Botner has not been accused of any crime, and she has not been offered anything in exchange for her testimony.
The woman also testified that she and Caleb used insulting names for Ashley like: "douche," "bit**,” "w***e," "s**t” and "spawn of Satan".
In another message, she wrote "douche needs to go," to which Caleb allegedly replied: "Please take her out."
In one text she sent, she referred to Ashley as "Ash-s**t," she read in court.
Ashley's sister previously told the courtroom that the couple's daughters, who were ages 9 and 11 at the time their mom was murdered, were heartbroken after finding out about their father's affair.
"They were shocked, they were upset for their mom because they said, 'She loved daddy more than anyone else in life. So why did Daddy not love her as much?" Ashley’s sister said.
She added that the older daughter was not "surprised" when she learned the identity of Caleb's mistress.
Caleb has been charged with murder, aggravated murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and witness intimidation.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
