Americans may receive $1,745 payment after Trump promised to give money to almost everyone in America - here's when it could hit your bank
Americans could be looking forward to receive a payment of $1,745 in the near future.
The so-called refund payment would be similar to the $2,000 stimulus check or dividend payment that Donald Trump has spoken about in the past.
It would be a payment given directly back to American citizens as a result of Trump imposing more tariffs that have affected prices in the US.
But there's a new update that you need to be on top of.
What is the $1,745 payment Americans may receive?
Trump has been hinting that the American public could receive money back for how much imposed tariffs have risen the cost of living in the country for a few months now.
In October 2025, the President said that this could potentially take the form of a dividend distributed to American citizens earning less than $100,000 a year, which he confirmed was in the works in a Truth Social post that November.
The checks were intended to be financed by the money taken from the tariffs, but this idea was overruled by the Supreme Court.
According to the Joint Economic Committee Democrats, between February 2025 and January 2026, American consumers shelled out on $231 billion in tariff expenses - which breaks down to $1,745 per family.
The new payments would, therefore, be less of a dividend profit share from the money the US government has collected from tariffs, and more of a refund.
YouTuber Blind to Billionaire, who has been following the case closely, recently said in a video that he would advise people "to count on nothing happening [in terms of refund]" so "if [the American people] happen to get something, then great."
The decision on whether the American people would receive this refund is still up in the air, however.
Trump has said before that he would expect back-payments to kick in sometime around mid-2026, but even this is a guess since the Supreme Court still need to give an update.
