Ordering a takeaway may always sound like a good idea, but waiting for that steaming hot pizza to arrive can often be torture, as your mouth fills with saliva at the thought of stringy cheese and pepperoni.

That's why pizza delivery guys have such an important job. Come rain or shine, they make sure that pizzas get where they need to be.

However, one pizza delivery guy was recently stopped in his tracks by the cops.

Fortunately, when the Murrieta Police Department had to arrest a pizza delivery driver on Friday, they still made sure that the meal reached its destination.

After discovering the pizza delivery driver's outstanding warrant after he was pulled over for a traffic violation, Officer Datil also learned that he was a pizza delivery driver and currently on his way to drop off an order.

So Datil handled the arrest; meanwhile, Officer McCarthy temporarily stepped into the pizza delivery driver's shoes to ensure that the citizen did not go hungry.

The department captioned the unusual picture on their Facebook page: "File this one under 'wouldn't you be surprised...'

"Earlier today Officer Datil was out and about doing traffic enforcement when he spotted a violator. He pulled the driver over, only to discover he had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest AND was in the middle of a food delivery to a hungry citizen.

"Unfortunately the driver had to be arrested for their warrant but fear not. Officer McCarthy stepped in to fill the delivery drivers [sic] shoes and got the pizza to the hungry citizen."

Needless to say, the incident was a lot more entertaining than what the person who ordered the pizza could have ever anticipated.

While pizza drivers are typically tipped for their efforts, the Murrieta Police Department wrote on Facebook: "The smile on the hungry citizen’s face was all the 'tip' needed to know we are doing our job."

A testament to the fact that, sometimes, a smile is all the thanks someone needs.

Meanwhile, in other pizza news, Lidl has launched a pigs-in-blankets pizza just in time for the holidays.
