A man has claimed his dashcam captured a valet making a vile homophobic comment about him while moving his car, apparently unaware that the entire interaction was being recorded.
Tyvarras D. Lindsey shared footage and an account of the incident on Facebook, saying he was left “extremely disappointed” after hearing what the valet allegedly said once he had driven away.
The incident reportedly happened at the Pearl River Resort's Silver Star Casino & Hotel in the early hours of Saturday morning, and Lindsey has since asked resort management to investigate the recorded incident and identify the employee involved.
According to Lindsey's Facebook post, he arrived at the resort shortly after midnight and spoke with a valet before heading inside, believing that the interaction appeared to be entirely cordial.
The valet reportedly asked whether he was checking into the hotel, to which Lindsey replied: “No, ma’am. I’m going to the casino floor for maybe an hour, that’s all.”
Lindsey said the valet then explained that the employees accepted tips.
He responded that he already knew and would “take care of her” when he returned, believing that, at the time, that was the end of their short conversation.
However, his dashcam apparently continued recording after he drove away, with the recording capturing the valet making a derogatory comment about him after he had left the vehicle, before being recorded belching.
The woman can then be heard allegedly saying: “F**got. Only going to be an hr. That’s all..."
Lindsey said he was shocked when he later heard the footage, commenting: “I was extremely disappointed to hear this.”
He added that, regardless of the employee's personal opinion of him, he could not understand what had happened during their brief interaction that would have prompted such ill-feeling or foul language.
He also pointed out that the employee had been entrusted with his vehicle, and as such, called on Pearl River Resort and Silver Star Casino & Hotel management to review the alleged incident and identify the employee involved.
He said he has retained the original dashcam footage, including the audio and timestamp, and made it available for management to examine.
He wrote: “I am asking Pearl River Resort / Silver Star Casino & Hotel management to review this incident, identify the employee involved, and address the conduct appropriately.”
Lindsey also said he wanted an explanation for the alleged comment, particularly because he believed his interaction with the valet had been respectful.
“I would also genuinely like to understand why I was spoken about this way after what I believed was a respectful interaction.”
He added that management could contact him directly through Facebook Messenger, with the post having now gone viral, amassing hundreds of thousands of views.
The situation also took another turn when Lindsey subsequently received a direct message from the same valet, adding another layer to an already uncomfortable encounter, despite not revealing what the context of the message was.
Lindsey's post has called for accountability from the resort rather than simply focusing on the employee's alleged comments.
