Controversial livestreamer has reportedly been charged with attempted murder after a shooting outside a Tennessee courthouse left two men injured.
Dalton Eatherly, better known online as 'Chud the Builder,' is a 28-year-old known for posting 'rage-bait' videos filled with racial slurs and confrontational behavior.
On Wednesday (May 13) afternoon, Eatherly was involved in a violent altercation outside the Montgomery County Courthouse in Clarksville.
District Attorney General Robert J. Nash said the confrontation began around 1:20pm and escalated into 'gunfire' involving the streamer and an 'unknown male.'
According to Clarksville Now, Nash said Eatherly was the person who opened fire and appeared to have shot himself in the arm during the chaos.
Deputies quickly locked down the courthouse and detained one person at the scene as law enforcement secured the area.
"Both individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
"One male was transported to Vanderbilt Clarksville hospital for treatment, while the second was transported by Lifeflight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
"Both individuals are currently listed in stable condition," the sheriff’s office said, cited by The Guardian.
"The district attorney’s general office is reviewing the facts of the investigation by law enforcement for formal criminal charges," they added.
The sheriff’s office praised deputies who responded to the scene, saying: "Thanks to the quick actions of our courthouse deputies, this situation was likely kept from becoming much worse.
"Their dedication to keeping the courthouse safe was clearly demonstrated today."
Court records show that the 28-year-old had been scheduled to appear at the courthouse earlier that morning as the defendant in a contract and debt-related case.
The shooting came just days after his arrest in Nashville, where he allegedly refused to pay a $371.55 restaurant bill at Bob’s Steak & Chop House, NBC News reported.
Per a probable cause affidavit, the streamer had been asked not to livestream inside the restaurant.
When staff realized he was still streaming and asked him to stop, he allegedly 'became disruptive and started making racial statements, yelling, screaming'.
He also reportedly told staff: "I'm not paying if you are kicking me out."
Police later charged him with disorderly conduct and theft of services.
The following day, officers spotted Eatherly walking in Nashville and attempted to arrest him on outstanding warrants.
Police said he pulled his arm away as officers tried to handcuff him, leading to an additional resisting arrest charge.
He was later released after posting a $5,000 bond and is due back in court on July 17.
Authorities said the courthouse shooting remains under investigation, though officials added there is currently no threat to the public.
