A death row inmate allegedly gorged himself on a gigantic last meal just moments before his execution by lethal injection.

Ray 'Jeff' Cromartie was originally scheduled to be put to death on October 30, but the original date of his execution was extended after an appeal was pending at Georgia's Supreme Court. However, after Cromartie's argument was dismissed, he was executed at 10.59 pm in Georgia Diagnostic Prison on November 14.

Cromartie's last meal allegedly consisted of macaroni and cheese, steak, rice and gravy, a steak and cheese sandwich, a double cheeseburger, French fries, a side of ranch dressing, a strawberry milkshake and layered cake with white icing.

According to a report by AJC, the state of Georgia provoked controversy after blocking Cromartie's appeal for DNA testing to potentially exonerate him, despite the fact that the victim’s daughter recently spoke out in favor of the measure.

Commenting on the court verdict per British tabloid newspaper The Daily Mirror, Thomasville Police Department spokesperson Melven Johnson stated: "A jury has found him guilty and sentenced him to death. I think to give these families and this victim some satisfaction and let them get this off their minds, it needs to happen."

Ray Cromartie was convicted in 1996 for the death of store clerk Richard Slysz in Georgia in April 1994. Cromartie allegedly shot Slysz on April 10, in a Junior Food Store, accompanied by his friends Corey Clark and Thaddeus Lucas. Unable to open the cash register, Cromartie and Clark grabbed two 12-packs of Budweiser and fled the scene.

But when one of the 12-packs broke open and spilled beer cans, Cromartie's thumbprint was found on a torn piece of the beer can casing, which was enough evidence to turn the tide of his trial against him.
