Donald Trump has insisted that no one else has done more for Christianity or religion than him.

The former president, 75, made the revelation during a recent interview on FlashPoint on The Victory Channel, a Christian TV network.

"Nobody has done more for Christianity or for evangelicals or for religion itself than I have," Trump said.

He then said that "getting rid of the Johnson Amendment" was a "very bad thing," according to Business Insider.

The Johnson Amendment prevents non-profit organizations from having a political stance on candidates, and if they do so, they put themselves at risk of losing the tax exemption status.

Listen to Trump make the revelation below:

While Trump reinstated the policy when he was president, it was immediately retracted when current President Joe Biden came to power.

The former president also mentioned the Mexico City policy in the interview, which was created to prevent federal funding of foreign non-governmental organizations that are pro-choice and, in some cases, make abortion referrals, as per Business Insider.

The police have existed since 1973, and it has frequently been removed by Democratic presidents and reinstated by Republican ones.

This trend was again reflected by Trump who reinstated the policy and by Biden who went on to remove it in January of this year.

As well as claiming that he has done more than anyone for religion in the interview, Trump said that Biden and the Democrats had "destructive" things to it.

"I said that Biden was going to be bad, he's turned out to be far worse than anybody ever thought. You talk about abortion, you talk about all of the subjects," Trump said.

"He's terrible on these subjects, and he lied. And just like they cheated on the election, the election was rigged, just like that happened they also cheated very much on what they really think of organized religion and religion and frankly Christianity."

Newsweek reports that Evangelical Christians were some of Trump's key supporters when he won the US election in 2016, and they could prove a key demographic again should he run in 2024.

Trump said that while he gets more credit for what he has done for Evangelical Christians than Jewish people in the US, "Israel's a very important element so nobody's done what I've done and I'm very happy to do it."
