In a story that shocked many, McKenna Kindred, a former high school teacher from Spokane Valley, Washington, became the center of a scandal after admitting to a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Despite the shocking nature of the affair, her husband, Kyle Kindred, has stood by her side.
Nearly two years later, the couple has relocated to a new state and remains married.
McKenna’s Betrayal
The events that led to McKenna Kindred’s criminal conviction began in 2022.
While her husband, Kyle, was away on hunting trips, McKenna engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a teenage student.
This relationship came to light after the 17-year-old student discovered McKenna's Instagram and initiated private communication, which eventually escalated into sexual encounters.
Prosecutors revealed that their affair began in June 2022 and continued into November when McKenna had sex with the student at her home, all while her husband was out of town.
The details of the affair surfaced when the teen’s friends shared explicit messages exchanged between McKenna and the student with school officials.
The messages painted a disturbing picture of the relationship, with McKenna expressing strong, inappropriate emotions towards the teen.
One message read, “I wanted you to be in my room,” and another stated, “When other girls talk about you in my class, I could feel myself getting mad.”
The investigation also uncovered explicit videos exchanged between the two.
Kyle Kindred Stays With His Wife
While the affair was a betrayal that rocked McKenna's life and career, it’s Kyle Kindred’s reaction that has captivated the public’s attention.
Despite the overwhelming evidence and public humiliation, Kyle has stood by McKenna through it all. Even after her tearful confession in court, where she expressed deep remorse for her actions, Kyle chose not to divorce her.
“As a result of my actions, I’ve lost my career, valuable friendships, freedoms and have let down countless people who placed their trust in me,” McKenna sobbed in a court statement.
She pleaded guilty to the charges in March 2024 and, as a result, was sentenced to two years of probation, ordered to pay $700 in fines and fees, and required to register as a sex offender for ten years.
Despite the criminal revelations, Kyle’s support for McKenna never wavered.
The couple sold their $1 million home in rural Spokane and purchased a new home together in Kuna, Idaho, for $498,000 just months after McKenna’s court appearance, per the New York Post.
The four-bedroom, 2,636-square-foot home is located in a quiet suburban area close to Boise, where Kyle has settled into his new role as a real estate lawyer at Holland & Hart, a position he began in August 2024.
Since relocating to Idaho, Kyle has started a new chapter in both his personal and professional life.
According to his firm’s profile, Kyle is described as an “avid outdoorsman, fly fisherman, and college basketball fanatic.”
His new life seems to reflect a shift towards privacy and a more settled existence, away from the public spotlight that had surrounded McKenna’s criminal case.
