A man who claimed to have coronavirus was arrested after coughing on FBI agents investigating him for hoarding surgical masks and other medical supplies, ABC7 reports.

The US Attorney’s Office said earlier this week that Baruch Feldheim, 43, of Brooklyn, New York is facing charges of assault and making false statements to federal officers. The incident occurred outside his Borough Park home on Sunday.

On March 18, he allegedly sold a doctor in New Jersey about thousand N95 masks for $12,000, a markup of approximately 700 per cent,  according to authorities.

The suspected hoarder is also being accused of directing a doctor to an Irvington, NJ, auto repair shop to pick up an order. It was there that the doctor alerted investigators to Feldheim's alleged hoarding, telling them he had stored enough medical equipment “to outfit an entire hospital.” The supplies included Clorox wipes, hand sanitizers, surgical supplies, and chemical cleaning agents.

On March 23, Feldheim offered to sell a nurse a sizable quantity of surgical gowns and directed the nurse to his Brooklyn home.

FBI agents began observing the alleged hoarder outside of his residence and noticed people walking away with boxes of items that appeared to be medical instruments.

Later the agents confronted Feldheim outside his home, keeping a safe distance as a precaution over coronavirus.

“When the agents were within four to five feet of him, Feldheim allegedly coughed in their direction without covering his mouth,” the US attorney’s release said, per the New York Post. “At that point, Feldheim told the FBI agents that he had the Coronavirus.”

The agents also said Feldheim been dishonest with them in connection with his possession and sale of medical items. He tried to deceive them by saying that he worked for a company that purchased and sold personal protective equipment.
