The son of the man who murdered Jeffrey Dahmer has opened up about the moment he learned that his own father had killed the notorious serial killer.

Jeffrey Dahmer is one of America's most infamous criminals, having murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. His involvement in the killings went undetected for over a decade despite a number of brushes with the law.

After he was sentenced to 16 terms of life imprisonment in both Wisconsin and Ohio, Dahmer was beaten to death by a fellow inmate, Chris Scarver, on November 28, 1994.

Both men were inmates at the Columbia Correctional Facility in Wisconsin. Wisconsin was the first to do away with the death penalty in 1853 and so, despite his horrific crimes, Dahmer didn't get the death penalty

Scarver’s son, also called Chris Scarver, spoke about what his father did in a 2014 interview with CNN.

Check out what he had to say below:

Recounting the time he learned that his father had murdered Dahmer, Scarver said: “I was about 10, and I saw it on TV. And that’s how I found out. “[…] A big picture of him popped up, and I was just shocked at that point.”

Referring to the first time he heard Dahmer’s name, Scarver said: “When I was young, I didn’t know what it meant, obviously. But that name has been around me for my whole life.”

Interest in Dahmer was revived recently when Netflix launched its latest true crime series, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, all about the life and heinous crimes of the so-called Cannibal Killer.
