Melania Trump makes surprising admission about her relationship with son Barron

Melania Trump recently opened up about her evolving relationship with her 20-year-old son, Barron Trump, offering a rare look into their changing family dynamics.
Speaking on Fox News' The Big Money Show, the First Lady explained that family time has become increasingly scarce as everyone juggles demanding schedules. Barron is currently pursuing studies at NYU's Stern School of Business after transferring to the university's Washington, D.C. campus, while also co-founding a drinks venture called SOLLOS.
The shift in their family schedule stems from packed calendars across the board. Melania noted that regular sit-down dinners with Donald Trump and Barron have become rare, with her husband frequently staying in the Oval Office late into the evening. Rather than forcing a routine, the family has adapted to the natural distance that comes as young adults grow independent.
Addressing the busy lifestyle on air, Melania explained how difficult it can be to gather everyone together. "It's good to schedule [family time], right?" she said on the show. "It's always good because everybody's so busy."
She expanded on how work commitments take precedence over traditional routines. "My husband is working – sometimes he's in the Oval Office till 9:30 at night, right? So do you wait that you will have dinner? You don't, because he's busy. I'm busy too."
She went on to add, "It's less and less family time. It's suffering because of it. But that's okay. We are here to work, to do a good job, and that's what matters. And Barron is already a young man, so sometimes he's maybe even happy that, you know, I just want to do my stuff. And that's okay."
Stepping back from the spotlight
Despite being a prominent public figure, Barron is described as quiet and deliberate about keeping a low profile. His public appearances remain rare, with his recent attendance at the FIFA World Cup Final in New Jersey alongside his parents standing out as a notable exception.
His sister-in-law, Lara Trump, discussed his approach to public attention during an episode of her podcast, The Right View with Lara Trump.
Lara pointed out that Barron understands the online curiosity surrounding him but prefers to keep his distance from public attention. "I feel like he's the sleeper," she said on the show. "You want to hear more about Barron 'cause you see less of him. And I think that's kind of cool."
She explained that he "knows that there's a lot of interest" in him online, which is "why he likes to lay low".
She further noted, "That's why he likes to play it cool. That's why you don't see him all the time. It's crazy because I've seen Barron grow up, which means I'm 160 years old... But he's turned out to be a really great kid."
Barron means business
In addition to his academic efforts, Barron is preparing for life after college. He launched his Florida-inspired drinks brand, SOLLOS, in June 2026 alongside friends, choosing to work behind the scenes rather than serving as the public face of the business.
Lara Trump highlighted his forward-thinking nature and interest in joining the workforce full-time. "I think he's got two years left of college, but he's excited to finish college and get out and work, which I love," Lara said.
She also recounted a moment demonstrating his sharp eye for modern tech trends. "We had a huge discussion at dinner on Sunday night at the White House about whether a certain image, I won't tell you what it is, was AI or real. And Barron and I were the only two that said, 'That's AI. You guys are all wrong. It's AI.' We were right. Proved it that night."
