Nancy Guthrie investigators slammed for 'Nancy has been located' post as search for 84-year-old continues
Police at the heart of the search for Nancy Guthrie have been slammed after putting out a post that claimed ‘Nancy has been located’.
Sadly for those waiting for Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mom to be found, it’s not the good news they had hoped.
Nancy Guthrie has been missing for some time now
Nancy Guthrie went missing from her home near Tucson, Arizona, at the start of February and the trail has gone particularly cold in recent times.
After chilling video footage emerged that showed a masked and armed man on her porch around the time of her disappearance, there have also been several ransom demands made.
However, none of this appears to have brought investigators much closer to where Nancy is, and the chances of her remaining alive for so long without her pacemaker and as an 84-year-old woman in a kidnapping situation are waning.
Still, police continue to search for her, and the melee around the case from the true crime community continues apace as well.
That’s why this latest move from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department hasn’t gone down too well.
Pima County Sheriff’s Department declares ‘Nancy has been located’
The Sheriff’s department - as you would expect - has other cases to investigate at the same time, despite this being their most high profile by far.
Naturally, they used their online presence to appeal for information in the case of another woman, an 82-year-old female called Nancy Radakovich.
She went missing on April 16, and had not been seen for some time, leading police to put out a call for information about her whereabouts.
However, that was not nearly as noticeable as the update they later put out stating simply: “Update: Nancy has been located.”
Many people who will have received that notification where aghast as they believed it indicated that Nancy Guthrie had been found, against the odds.
While this is definitely great news for the Radakovich family, who have had their family member safely returned to them, people were quick to take to the comments of that post to express their displeasure.
Some even accused the police of being deliberately misleading.
“Now y’all knew damn well what you were doing with this post,” one comment read.
A second wrote: “My heart skipped a beat thinking it was Nancy Guthrie!”
A third said: “I LITERALLY THOUGHT THIS WAS NANCY GUTHRIE. THE WAY MY HEART JUST DROPPED!”
A fourth said: "Only Pima County Sheriff’s ]Department] would put out a story like this. Shameful."
Some people were a bit more understanding.
One commented: “Oh geez… different Nancy. Glad this one has been located, where is Nancy Guthrie?”
“Great, at least one Nancy is safe,” another said.
What is the latest in the Nancy Guthrie case?
The latest update in the Nancy Guthrie case shows that the FBI is analyzing ‘potentially critical DNA’ evidence found in her home after the incident at the start of February.
According to ABC News, that sample could take months to unpack, and the FBI has been using ‘new technology’ to assess it.
The family has put forward a $1m reward for information that leads to Nancy’s safe return, and Savannah herself has recently returned to work on the TODAY programme.
