Neighbor speaks out on seeing TV anchor 'covered in blood' after stabbing own mom to death on Halloween

A neighbor has spoken of her horror after seeing former TV anchor Angelynn Mock immediately after she allegedly stabbed her 80-year-old mother to death inside their home in Wichita.

47-year-old Mock, who was an anchor at FOX2 News in St Louis from 2011 to 2015, was arrested following an incident that authorities are treating as a domestic homicide.

Wichita Police Department said in a statement that officers responded to a 911 call at a residence in East Crowley shortly after 8:00AM last Friday morning (October 31).

When they arrived, they found 80-year-old Anita Avers unresponsive with multiple stab wounds.

Avers was then rushed into hospital but was pronounced dead around an hour later.

Mock was found outside her home with cuts on her hands when the police arrived, she was taken to hospital for treatment before being taken to Sedgwick County Jail where she was held on a charge of first-degree murder.

Neighbors describe a gory scene as distressing 911 call is revealed

Dispatch recordings obtained by local news station KAKE reveal that a call was made to 911 operators by a woman who claimed to have ‘stabbed her mother to save herself’.

It is not immediately clear if the call was made by Mock, but neighbors said that she emerged from the house with blood all over her just before the arrival of the officers.

Alyssa Castro, who lives nearby, explained: “There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911.”

Castro told KAKE that Mock then took her boyfriend’s phone before returning to the house to call for help.

“I asked her if she was okay, and she was pretty shooken up and she seemed scared, and she just ran off,” Castro recalled.

Castro said that the grim moment is something that she will never forget, and after police returned her phone following the securing of the scene, she added that she was happy to have been ‘able to help’.

“Like, we never know what anyone is going through. This happened randomly, but as long as we were able to get 911 and see what we can do, that’s all I really care about,” she told KAKE.

Anita Avers was a respected therapist

Family members confirmed to KAKE that the victim, Anita Avers, was a marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals, where she was known for her compassion and decades-long career in mental health.

Avers’ husband also confirmed her identity to reporters, describing the loss as devastating.

Before the shocking killing, Mock had been known in St. Louis media circles as a bright on-air personality.

During her years with Fox 2 News, she served as both a morning and evening fill-in anchor before leaving the station in 2015.

Her career later shifted away from broadcasting — with several sales positions in the St. Louis area until 2017 — before joining a Midwest-based data management company that operates offices across several states, including Wichita.

Wichita Police say the investigation remains active, and no motive has yet been confirmed. They have not released further details about what may have led to the deadly confrontation between Mock and her mother.
