One of the richest men on Earth donates $10k to ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Good
Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman made headlines after dropping $10,000 on a GoFundMe page supporting ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who fatally shot anti-ICE protester and mother of three, Renee Nicole Good.
Ackman, 59, confirmed the donation was his after users on social media speculated about the identity behind the top donor listed as "William Ackman."
“I am big believer in our legal principal [sic] that one is innocent until proven guilty. To that end, I supported the @gofundme for Jonathan Ross and intended to similarly support the gofundme for Renee Good’s family (her gofundme was closed by the time I attempted to provide support),” Ackman wrote on X.
The GoFundMe for Good’s family had already reached more than $1.5 million and was closed by the organizer before Ackman had a chance to donate. Her widow and children are listed as the beneficiaries.
ICE agent fired three shots during protest encounter
According to federal officials, Ross fired “defensive shots” during an operation in Minneapolis after Good allegedly clipped him with her vehicle.
Ross, who had previously been injured in a vehicle-ramming incident on the job, fired one shot through the windshield and two more through the open driver’s side window. The moment was captured in video footage showing Good’s final moments behind the wheel of her maroon car.
The shooting has ignited fierce debate online. The GoFundMe for Ross was set up to cover “any legal services this officer needs” and has raised over $270,000 following Ackman’s public support.
The campaign organizer, who does not appear to personally know Ross, criticized media narratives about Good, calling them “media bs about a domestic terrorist.”
Ackman says tragedy shows deeper divide in America
In a follow-up post, Ackman commented on the broader implications of the incident. “The whole situation is a tragedy. An officer doing his best to do his job, and a protester who likely did not intend to kill the officer but whose actions in a split second led to her death. Our country is stronger if we work together to resolve the complex issues that are tearing us apart,” he said.
Ackman is the founder of Pershing Square Capital Management and has a reported net worth of $9.3 billion.
His $10,000 donation represents approximately 0.0001075% of his total fortune.
While the GoFundMe for Good’s family is closed, the page for Ross remains active. However, the organizer warned that if Ross’ family does not respond by March 9, all donations will be refunded.
