The Carrollton Texas Police Department has taken to Facebook to confirm that they are looking for an 18-year-old teenager who shared a video to social media claiming to have COVID-19, and that she is "willingly spreading" it.

Identified as Lorraine Maradiaga of Carrollton, posted a series of concerning and bizarre videos on Snapchat over the weekend in which she talks openly about infecting shoppers at Walmart with the novel coronavirus.

In one of the videos, Maradiaga says: "I'm here at Walmart about to infest every m**********r, because if I'm going down, all you m***********s are going down."

In another clip, she can be seen coughing into the camera, before adding: "If you want to get the coronavirus and f****** die, call me. I'll meet you up and (cough, cough) and I will shorten your life."

Writing on Facebook, the police department said:

"We have identified the woman seen on social media claiming to be COVID-19 positive and willfully spreading it as 18-year-old Lorraine Maradiaga of Carrollton. We are charging her with Terroristic Threat, Texas Penal Code 22.07."

They added that despite her threats, there is still no confirmation that Maradiaga is a threat to the public: "We have no confirmation Maradiaga is actually a threat to public health. We are, however, taking her social media actions very seriously."

Per NBCDFW, police have said they are receiving tips and if people know where she is to contact 972-466-3333 or [email protected].

Per Politico, the federal government is taking swift and heavy action against individuals who knowingly spread COVID-19.

Last month, the Department of Justice said anyone who carries out the "purposeful exposure and infection of others with COVID-19" would face federal terrorism charges. Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen in a memo:

"Because Coronavirus appears to meet the statutory definition of a 'biological agent' […] such acts potentially could implicate the Nation’s terrorism-related statutes. Threats or attempts to use COVID-19 as a weapon against Americans will not be tolerated."

Per the John Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, there have been 1,348,628 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus worldwide, and a global death toll of 74,816.

We are urging all of our readers to adhere to the advice from their respective governments and medical bodies, and practice social distancing and self-isolation where required. Together, we will beat this...
