Following Trump’s explosive “Liberation Day” address on April 2, a sweeping wave of global tariffs is already reshaping the economy — and it’s hitting everyday consumers hard.

From cars to coffee, furniture to fruit, the price tags are estimated to climb fast.

The 47th President made it crystal clear that he’s not backing down. Speaking from the White House Rose Garden, Trump rolled out a 10% “baseline” tariff on all imports, with even higher penalties for 60 countries labeled “worst offenders.”

That includes Japan (24%), South Africa (30%), Vietnam (46%), and China (54%) — the hardest hit of all.

“This is Liberation Day,” Trump said. “We’ve been waiting for a long time. April 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America’s destiny was reclaimed, and the day that we began to ‘Make America Wealthy Again’.”

“For decades our country has been looted, pillaged, raped and plundered from nations, near and far, from both friend and foe alike.”

“They do it to us, and we do it to them. Doesn’t get much simpler than that.”

While markets shook and fears of a recession spread, Trump spent Friday on the golf course. According to the traveling press pool, he arrived at Trump International Golf Club at 9:45AM and left around 3:30PM, per ABC News.

But that didn’t stop him from hitting social media again later in the day, posting a five-word all-caps message: "ONLY THE WEAK WILL FAIL!"

In another post, Trump tried to reassure investors: “Big business is not worried about the Tariffs, because they know they are here to stay, but they are focused on the BIG, BEAUTIFUL DEAL, which will SUPERCHARGE our Economy Very important. Going on right now!!!”

Not everyone’s convinced. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the tariff blitz, warning that it could wreck the U.S. economy.

“The business community is totally nervous about this,” he said.

“What makes it cause a recession? Businesspeople like certainty, and when Trump is all over the lot, issues new things every day, and it’s so erratic, and now we have China retaliating.”

He also called on more Republicans to back a bipartisan bill aimed at limiting Trump’s ability to impose future tariffs.

Former President Barack Obama chimed in too, taking aim at Trump’s economic and political strategy during a recent appearance with College President Steven Tepper.

“I have deep differences of opinion with my most immediate successor — who’s now president once again,” Obama said.

“I don’t think what we just witnessed in terms of economic policy and tariffs is going to be good for America.”

He continued: “I’m more deeply concerned with a federal government that threatens universities if they don’t give up students who are exercising their right to free speech.”
