According to White House officials, Trump has reportedly received a cocktail of drugs as a "precautionary measure" and was feeling "fatigued but in good spirits".

As reported by CNN, White House communications aide Alyssa Farah tells CNN there has been no transfer of power.

In addition, the news outlet reports that officials from the White House have stated:

"Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the President will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days."

President Trump, 74, began exhibiting "mild symptoms" of COVID-19 on Thursday after disclosing that he and the First Lady had gone into quarantine late Wednesday after top aide Hope Hicks had tested positive.

Press Secretary for the White House Kayleigh McEnany released a statement on behalf of Trump's physician Sean Conley, stating that First Lady Melania, 50, "remains well with only a mild cough and headache."

Conley also stated that the rest of the First Family are well and have tested negative for COVID-19.

In response to the news, the President's son, Eric Trump, tweeted:

"@RealDonaldTrump is a true warrior. He will fight through this with the same strength and conviction that he uses to fight for America each and every day.

"I ask you to join me in praying for his recovery. I have never been more proud of someone and what they have had to endure."

Political rival Joe Biden also tweeted the following message of hope to the nation following the news of Trump being transported to Walter Reed:

"This cannot be a partisan moment.

"It must be an American moment.

"We have to come together as a nation."

Trump had initially taken to Twitter earlier today to inform his 86.5 million followers that Hope Hicks had tested positive for the novel coronavirus and that he and Melania had also been tested as a result.

Trump wrote:

"Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!"

Then, approximately two hours later, 74-year-old Trump confirmed that he and the First Lady, 50, had both tested positive and will continue quarantining:

"Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!"

First Lady Melania has also taken to social media to comment on the news, writing to her 15.1 million Twitter followers:

"As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19.

"We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together."

In addition, as well as testing negative himself for COVID-19, the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has taken to Twitter to wish both the President and First Lady a "swift recovery".
