Six disturbing images released as Boston dad is found guilty of sexually abusing teen on plane while with his wife and kids
A number of images have been released following the conviction of a Bostonian father for sexually abusing a teenage girl while on a flight with his family.
Jonathan Alan Lefman, a 48-year-old father of four was onboard a JetBlue flight from Puerto Rico to Boston in August 2024, when he was accused of the sexual assault.
Disturbing images emerge of sexual assault
Details have emerged that at the time of the incident, Lefman was accompanied by his wife and four children, where he repeatedly fondled a 17-year-old girl who was occupying the seat in front of him.
Pictures of the disturbing assault capture the moment Lefman stuck his hand through the gaps between the seats, before touching her buttocks, with his fingers visibly appearing through the physical openings in the seat.
According to prosecutors, the teenage girl caught Lefman’s reflection in the seatback monitor in front of her, while he leaned forward to grope her, before she captured pictures of his efforts.
Further reports also claim that Lefman’s son, who was just 16 at the time of the incident, had been sitting next to him as the assault unfolded.
Lefman was later confronted by one of the victim’s family members, who also reported the incident to a JetBlue supervisor along with the images taken by the girl of his fingers.
After being caught red handed, Lefman issued an apology, but denied any wrongdoing, claiming that he was simply stretching, and when asked by investigators whether he recognized the fingers, he retorted: “Not really, no.”
Lefman was consequently found guilty of one count of abusive sexual contact despite being in special aircraft jurisdiction at the time of the assault following a three-day trial, the Massachusetts authorities announced.
Lefman now awaits his sentence, which is set to be handed out on January 12, 2027, with the 48-year-old potentially facing five years in prison to a lifetime supervised release, as well as a fine of $250,000, according to a New York Post report.
Authorities release updates
In a statement, released by US lawyer Leah B. Foley, she announced: "The defendant repeatedly sexually abused a minor who was simply trying to travel safely aboard a commercial flight.
"No one should have to fear being sexually assaulted, whether in the air or on the ground. Today’s verdict holds the defendant accountable for his disturbing conduct and sends a clear message that those who prey on vulnerable passengers will face justice."
Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division, added in a further statement: "This verdict delivers justice for a young teen who showed remarkable courage following an appalling act.
"No one should ever be subjected to such harmful and predatory conduct—least of all in a confined, public space where she was entitled to feel safe.
"The FBI is fully committed to protecting children and ensuring those who exploit or abuse them, like Mr. Lefman, are brought to justice."
Lefman will now be required to register on the Sex Offender Registry.
