How man reacted after discovering fiancée making out with fifth-grade student ahead of their wedding
Madison Bergmann, a former teacher at a Wisconsin school, was accused and convicted after being caught sending sexual texts to a fifth-grade student.
The then-24-year-old was arrested after the victim's parents discovered the texts and confronted her with printed proof of the exchanges in 2024.
The boy's parents allegedly heard him speaking to his teacher on the phone, with conversations revealing that there were numerous encounters between the teacher and the 11-year-old either during lunch or after school.
It was reported that the pair spoke every day, with the criminal complaint detailing allegations of kissing, touching, and sexual contact.
Bergmann was charged with one count of first-degree child sexual assault, before later pleading guilty to one count of child enticement and two counts of sexual misconduct.
At the time, Bergmann was engaged and was set to be married in July that year.
Bergmann's fiancé reacts to the inappropriate relationship
Upon finding out about her texts to the child, Bergmann's fiancé called off their wedding - the couple was due to tie the knot less than three months after her arrest.
As reported by KSTP, the relationship began after Bergmann got hold of the child's phone number during a skiing trip over winter break, after which they spoke almost every day.
It was reported that Bergmann sent texts to the student, expressing her affection for him while also enjoying the inappropriate physical contact.
Authorities revealed that there were 100 handwritten notes and artwork included in a criminal complaint, as one text read: "Dude I love you so much more - like I didn't think it was possible - but oh my god today during reading..."
As per Law & Crime, Bergmann also messaged him: "One of my cousins is in the fifth grade, I can't imagine a man talking to her how we talk. I know we have a special relationship, and I do love you more than anyone in the world, but I have to be the adult here and stop."
A different exchange included the victim saying: "Haha bro I just want to make out with you," to which the teacher said: "I do too, like all the time."
She later admitted that she was obsessed with the boy.
Bergmann was sentenced in 2025
On December 19, 2025, the former teacher was sentenced to six years in prison, followed by six years of supervision, after pleading guilty to one count of child enticement and two counts of sexual misconduct.
According to the New York Post, she broke down in tears during the sentencing, as it was found that she had exchanged 35,000 texts with the child.
She had pleaded guilty to receive a lighter sentence, asking for a year of prison time, while prosecutors pushed for 12 years.
Bergmann said to the court, while sobbing: “I want to make it absolutely clear that I take full accountability for every boundary that was crossed,
“I hope that your family has been able to begin to heal and find some peace in your lives again. I know the journey will be long for your family.”
