Texas Roadhouse customer says he ordered filet mignon three times and got a cheaper cut every time - but the chain will only admit to once
An Illinois-based restaurant customer has gone viral after he claimed he was served a cheaper cut of steak than the one he ordered.
He claimed that he was being ripped off by a Texas Roadhouse chain in Forsyth, Illinois, and that it wasn't the first time.
Kenneth Card posted a video on TikTok earlier this month, warning other customers of what happened to him.
The formerly loyal Texas Roadhouse customer has garnered over 33,000 views on the social media platform, as he said he ordered an 8-oz. filet mignon before allegedly being served a sirloin steak.
He recalled: "I said, 'Excuse me, I think I got the wrong steak,'" claiming that the waiter went to get a 'second opinion' before confirming that it was a sirloin cut.
Customer says this isn't the first time
Kenneth told the waiter he went to the restaurant every week for a year, and this was the third time he ran into this problem.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, he said that his experience from waorking in hotel and restaurant kitchens, often preparing steaks, meant he was confident in telling the cuts apart.
"I know what types of meat I get whenever I receive it," he said.
The customer said he had built a rapport with staff over his visits, and that the first time it happened, he believed he was handed the wrong steak before being given the right one.
Kenneth said that he ate the wrong steak the second time around, without raising an issue, but on the third occasion, he spoke to a manager.
He said, looking back: "I was like, 'Look, this is the third time that y'all tried to sell me a sirloin or whatever else kind of steak it is besides a filet.'"
After being told it was the wrong cut, he asked for it to go and posted his video after getting home.
Speaking of his intention behind the post, he explained: "I just wanted to get the word out that, 'Hey, you're getting ripped off if you're ordering this, and they're selling you this.'"
For reference, the eight-ounce sirloin costs around $20 at the restaurant's Forsyth location, while the filet mignon costs around $30.
Kenneth was surprised by the recurring issue, and wanted people to get what they ordered and are paying for.
Texas Roadhouse spokesperson speaks out
In response to the controversy, a spokesperson for the restaurant stated they have 'not been able to track that this occurred on three occasions', but confirmed the issue was corrected at the restaurant once.
They claimed that management 'quickly made it right', adding that team members always double-check food for accuracy and quality before it leaves the kitchen.
It is further detailed that customers who think they are given the wrong dish or are charged incorrectly should alert their server so the issue can be addressed.
Commenters below Kenneth's video admitted that they might not have noticed the difference, but it's good that he did.
The man explained: "[A filet] melts in your mouth. It's very tender," adding that the sirloin is 'a little grittier, a little chewier.'
Unsurprisingly, Kenneth isn't planning any future trips to the Texas Roadhouse joint anymore, stating: "I think I'm done going in there, I'll try somewhere else."
