Donald Trump has sparked a wave of online speculation after viewers fixated on a full-body image from his latest 60 Minutes interview, with some social media users pushing claims the president was wearing an adult diaper, while others insisted there was a far less sensational explanation.
The 79-year-old sat down with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell on Sunday, April 26, shortly after Secret Service agents evacuated him from the White House Correspondents' Dinner during a shooting scare. But while the interview itself made headlines after Trump called O’Donnell a “disgrace” and declared he’s not a rapist, a behind-the-scenes photo shared online quickly stole attention for another reason.
Singer Bill Madden posted a side-profile image of Trump seated in a navy blue suit, prompting a flood of reactions over what some believed was a visible bulge beneath his jacket. The image ignited fierce debate online, with critics and supporters offering sharply different theories over what viewers were really seeing.
Madden fueled the chatter when he wrote on X, "Trump, sitting during his 60 Minutes interview, shows not only how morbidly obese he has become, but that he wears a very thick adult diaper.
"That's what happens when you're on a McDonald's diet and have incontinence," A X user commented.
A second joked, "Dang, the diaper has its own zip code. It could probably stop a bullet."
Others argued there may have been a more practical reason for the shape seen in the image.
"My guess is he is wearing a bulletproof vest underneath his suit. Another agreed, "It's the bottom part of a bulletproof vest. Presidents wear them constantly now after multiple assassination attempts - regardless of party."
The commenter elaborated further, stating, "It's clearly a vest in sitting position - the suit bunches up exactly like that. Totally normal with his size (6'3"). Not a conspiracy.""
One speculate: "Or some kind of medical device to keep him going. Maybe it's a battery pack."
"He may also have a diaper, but that huge poof out below the waist is where his shapewear/girdle ends. The fat just looks more exaggerated as a result of that, compounded by the sitting," another said, while another commented, "I still think it's a colostomy bag. Perhaps over the multi-layered Depends."
The viral reaction also revived long-running rumors surrounding Trump and adult diapers, claims that trace back to comments made by former Celebrity Apprentice crew member Noel Casler.
"He would often soil himself on The Apprentice set, he's incontinent," Casler, who worked on Celebrity Apprentice for six seasons, revealed to MeidasTouch back in 2020.
He added, "He's worn diapers since probably the 90s, but I saw it first-hand in the 2000s on The Celebrity Apprentice in the late 2000s, and we've had to stop the show and change him."
Those allegations remain unconfirmed, but they have repeatedly resurfaced online, including earlier this year when social media rumors claimed Trump abruptly ended an Oval Office meeting over an alleged bathroom incident. Some claimed journalists were "rushed out of the room" because the president "s--- his pants."
White House spokesman Steven Cheung pushed back on those claims, calling them "not true," while Trump's physician has continued to maintain the president is in "excellent" health.
While the diaper theories exploded online, many pointed out the image could have shown nothing more than a bulletproof vest bunching up as Trump sat in the chair, especially given the recent shooting scare that preceded the interview.
That competing explanation only fueled more arguments, with social media split between mockery, speculation and attempts to debunk the claims.
What started as a routine interview image quickly spiraled into another viral Trump controversy, with one photo driving yet another online firestorm.
