In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. famously gave his "I have a dream" speech during a march on Washington. He was, of course, talking about the injustices faced by black people at the hands of white people, and called for a change in the way America was governed.

Now, more than half a century later, the civil rights activist's granddaughter, nine-year-old Yolanda King, has also made her mark on history - though her message was slightly different.

Speaking at the March For Our Lives in Washington DC in front of a crowd of thousands, the young girl shared these words: "My grandfather had a dream that his four little children will not be judged by the color of the skin, but the content of their character. I have a dream that enough is enough. And that this should be a gun-free world, period."

She was joined on stage by Jaclyn Corin, a survivor of the Parkland shooting that marked a turning point in the campaign for greater gun control in the USA. Together, they led a chant: "Spread the word, have you heard? All across the nation, we are going to be a great generation."

The USA's problem with gun violence has long been an issue for the nation, but this year it has truly come to the forefront of public discussion, with marches like this one taking place all over the world. While opinions may still be divided on the matter, it is clear that people like Yolanda and the survivors of the Parkland shooting are simply asking for a safer, happier nation - which is exactly what Martin Luther King Jr. asked for all those years ago.

Hopefully, with a young generation as passionate as this, these dreams will soon become a reality.
