A man has been charged with assault after he was reportedly caught on surveillance footage stabbing a female shopper in the backside with a syringe filled with semen.

Thomas Byron Stemen was reportedly in possession of multiple syringes filled with semen after the woman was stabbed while her back was turned in a store.

Local law enforcement in Maryland were informed after the female victim - who has since been identified as Katie Peters - told them that she had been injected with what felt like a needle.

CCTV footage released by Maryland police appears to show the alleged attacker, who was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark jacket, following Peters into the store.

As the woman returns her shopping trolley, the man bumps into her, before she turns around, appearing distressed at what has just taken place.

Peters, who has since said that she was traumatized by the ordeal, told police officers that she had been stabbed with a needle. She was subsequently required to go for urine and blood tests, as well as take anti-disease medication for the following 30 days.

Authorities later found a large syringe filled with liquid in the 51-year-old's car during a search, as well as several more syringes at his home.

Stemen has been accused of assaulting two more women after also attempting to inject them with semen at the same supermarket in Anne Arundel County.

Speaking to WJZ, Peters said that after the incident, Stemen said: "I know it feels like a bee sting, doesn’t it?"

"I started driving home [and] it started hurting really bad. I called my son and said, ‘Something’s not right, I hope nothing happens. I hope I make it home, I love you," she continued to the publication.

Stemen has been charged with first and second degree assault and reckless endangerment, and has been held without bond.
