The San Antonio Zoo is offering a cathartic solution with its annual "Cry Me A Cockroach" fundraiser, aimed at supporting the zoo's vision of securing a future for wildlife in Texas and around the world.

For a fee of $10, participants can name a cockroach after their ex, and for those who can't stand bugs, there's an option to name a rodent for $25 or a vegetable for $5, per the Mirror.

Each donor receives a digital Valentine's Day card, along with the option to send a digital card to their ex, notifying them of the cockroach named in their honor, destined to become a meal for a zoo animal.

For those harboring intense feelings of animosity towards their former flame, there's a $150 option that includes a video of the chosen cockroach, rodent, or vegetable meeting its fate at the jaws of a hungry zoo animal.

According to Cyle Perez, the zoo's director of public relations, 2022's "Cry Me A Cockroach" fundraiser gained over 8,000 donations from individuals in over 30 countries. The most popular ex-names were Jacob and Sarah. This year, the zoo anticipates an even bigger turnout.

Perez told CNN that 2023 was set to be bigger than the year before, so all eyes will now be on Valentine's Day 2024 to see how many scorned lovers take up the offer.

If you're concerned about the welfare of the cockroaches for whatever reason, before they get eaten they are well looked after by the Reptile Department in the Reptile House and are sourced from professional breeders.

So save yourself some money on flowers, chocolates, and a dinner reservation - get yourself a cockroach instead!
