A man has gone viral on social media this week, after interrupting a French reporter during a live broadcast and forcing him to endure his painfully awkward impression of a French accent.

According to The Independent, the incident in question occurred while BFM TV news anchor Maxime Switek was covering the celebrations in Washington D.C., after Democrat candidate Joe Biden was projected to have won the 2020 presidential election.

While covering the festivities, Switek was interrupted by a shirtless man wearing shades and a mask, who seemed to be very excited by Switek's accent.

The shirtless man went right up to the mic and (in an extremely bad French accent) shouted out:

"I’ve been to France; it’s beautiful! I ate escargot! I love a croissant. I love an omelette du fromage."

The hilarious clip was later uploaded to Twitter by a Belgian man named Pierre Le Texier, who captioned it simply: "J'en chialle," which translates as: "I cry."

The video in question has since managed to accrue over 9 million views since Saturday, and a large number of social media users have retweeted their appreciation of the footage as well.

Forbes has now identified the mystery Francophile as 30-year-old Meka Anyanetu, who said that he has appreciated French culture ever since studying it in school.

In a later interview with Forbes on his newfound viral fame, Meka stated:

"The French are great. I love French food. I love the basic jam there. I love the clothing. I definitely want to come back there and I can’t wait to travel. That was one of my plans this year that was canceled by COVID."

He added: "Not only have I been in France, but I've traveled by myself. Let your audience know and let the Francophone world know that. I'm not just some oblivious American who watched one TV show.

"I actually used to know French. I love their transit and as well as their quality of food. Like just things like bread, the meat. I feel like basic items just taste so much better there."

Meka hopes to travel to France once COVID restrictions have lifted, and has started crowdfunding for his trip on his Venmo account.
