A woman's reaction to sitting next to a convicted serial killer has gone viral on social media.

On Wednesday, a court ruled that French serial killer Charles Sobhraj should be released from a Nepal prison and deported back to France.

Per News.com.au, Sobhraj has spent nearly two decades behind bars after being found guilty for the murders of multiple western tourists visiting the hippie trail of South Asia throughout the 1970s.

Known as the "Bikini Killer" due to the attire of some of his victims, Sobhraj has been deemed responsible for at least 12 murders - but theories suggest he could have claimed up to 30 victims.

He was given a life sentence back in 2003, but was granted his release earlier this week on health grounds.

Then, on Friday, Sobhraj boarded a flight at Kathmandu airport to take him to Paris via Doha. News.com.au reports that, while on the flight to Doha, Sobhraj told a journalist from AFP that he was "innocent".

Although, it seems that one fellow passenger on the flight still felt a bit uneasy about sharing an armrest with Sobhraj.

On social media, a photo of Sobhraj has gone viral thanks to the reaction of the woman sat next to the convicted killer, who can be seen with a shocked expression on her face.

After sharing the image on its official Instagram page, CNN's post was flooded with comments from bewildered social media users.

One person wrote: "That woman’s face is like, 'Y’all gotta be kidding me.'"

A second asked: "Can you even imagine having to sit next to him the entire flight?"

Another Instagram user added: "There is a lot going on In this picture. [...] but her look says everything."

"The [woman] next to him should be getting free drinks." a fourth joked, with another quipping: "Lady next to him can’t even fake her reaction."

Last year, the French serial killer's crimes were the subject of the BBC One drama series, The Serpent - his other moniker.

Sobhraj is set to land in the French capital on Saturday morning (December 24). He told reporters that he has "a lot of people" to sue following his incarceration.
